Allen Buchanen is James B. Duke Professor of philosophy at Duke University. He is also affiliated with the Institute for Genome Sciences and Policy at Duke University.
Since 2007 Professor Buchanan is a consultant for U. S. President’s Council on Bioethics. Previously, he served as a consultant for the Secretary of Health and Human Services Advisory Committee on Genetic Testing, National Bioethics Advisory Commission, U.S. Advisory Committee on Human Radiation Experimentation, and as a member of the Advisory Council for the National Human Genome Research Institute. His previous appointments include being a Professor of Philosophy and Law at University of Arizona; a Grainger Professor of Business Ethics, Joel Feinberg Professor of Philosophy and Professor of History of Medicine at University of Wisconsin-Madison. He was also a senior fellow at the National Humanities Center.
Professor Buchanan received his B. A. degree from Columbia University and his PhD degree from University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. His research spans bioethics, philosophy of international law and political philosophy.
